The experiment with AI at OFF Radio Krakow is one of the most interesting media events of recent months, which has sparked a wave of discussion in Poland. Instead of using traditional presenters, the radio station decided to use synthetic voices generated by AI, which is expected to bring cost-saving benefits and allow testing of the technology in a practical media context. Despite the technological advantages of AI, there have also been challenges related to the reception of content by listeners, who often expect emotional engagement and authenticity.

The decision has been met with mixed reactions. Supporters argue that AI can help streamline production and reduce costs – key issues at a time when many media outlets are struggling financially. For opponents, however, the presence of AI in the role of radio presenter poses a threat to the quality of broadcasts, which can become more impersonal and artificial. They argue that a human voice and authenticity are essential to effectively engage listeners, especially in the areas of culture and social issues, where emotional messages play an important role.

OFF Radio Krakow is planning a thorough analysis of the project after three months of operation to assess whether artificial intelligence can meet listeners’ expectations and whether the economic benefits outweigh potential quality losses. This study will become an important benchmark for other radio stations in Poland considering implementing AI in daily broadcasting.

However, the current introduction of AI in radio may just be the beginning of a broader media revolution. Many media companies in other industries, such as press and television, are also interested in this technology as a way to automate and innovate. Observing the development of this trend, one can ask: will traditional media in Poland face a significant transformation, or will AI remain just an experiment? The answer may lie not only in the reaction of listeners, but also in the overall development of artificial intelligence and its adaptation in the media industry.
